SaltyShrimp Bee-Shrimp Mineral GH+ has especially been developed for the keeping and breeding of bee shrimp, bumblebee shrimp and tiger shrimp in an aquarium, to mineralise RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. It raises the total hardness (°dH) without significantly influencing the carbonate hardness (KH). This is especially important for shrimp originating from softwater habitats (ratio of KH/°dH: 0,06/1,0).

For keeping and breeding Bee Shrimp and Co., a pH of under 7 is recommended. Liquid Mineral GH+ does not influence the pH directly. If your water does not have any carbonate hardness, the pH is easy to adjust, as the carbonate hardness would buffer the pH. Use alder cones or some fallen brown leaves to lower the pH to the reading you desire. Often, breeders and keepers use an active soil substrate like e.g. our "Environment Aquarium Soil“, which lowers the pH automatically to under 7 and keeps it stable for a long time thanks to its buffering properties. If you do not use an active substrate you ought to add humins to your water to buffer the pH.

Humins boost the immune system of the aquarium inhabitants and increase the stability of the biological system. They inhibit algal growth and the development of germs, bind to noxious substances and have the potential to prevent diseases and fungal infections. Moreover, humins stabilize the pH and protect your aquarium water from a dangerous acid drop. No aquarium should run without humins. Their positive properties have been proven by recent scientific research, and as they miss completely in tap water or RO water, we need to add them to our tanks. Humins are part of an animal-friendly environment, as they are present in practically all the natural habitats. They are crucial for the health and the immune system of aquatic animals. Their organisms have adapted to the presence of humins, and even small concentrations that do not stain the water significantly are sufficient for positive results. Scientific research on crustaceans (Daphnia) showed that even the smallest, invisible concentration of humins was sufficient to enhance their well-being and their reproductive rates. We have been using humins in our breeding tanks for years and can corroborate these findings — humins have the same effect on shrimp. Hence we can absolutely stand behind the recommendation to add humins regularly to the aquarium. Further scientific research also confirms the positive characteristics of humins, like e.g. the work of Professor Dr. Christian Steinberg (chair: aquatic ecology at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin), who was dealing with humins very intensely. In his opinion, humins are indispensable in aquaria. In the classic ecological literature, authors assume that humins only influence aquatic animals indirectly, however, now Professor Dr. Christian Steinberg has been able to show that humins also have direct effects on the organisms, which makes them a vital addition to the water. Based on our experience, we share his opinion, and as far as we are concerned, humins are a must in every aquarium.
